Second grade students are working on measurement. They are currently comparing inches and centimeters. It has been challenging for them to remember which side of the ruler is which, so please practice at home!.
Our Standards:
MCC2.MD.1 Measure the length of an object by
selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks,
and measuring tapes
MCC2.MD.2 Measure the length of an object twice,
using length units of different lengths for the two measurements; describe how
the two measurements relate to the size of the unit chosen
Essential Questions:
Why is it important for us to know how to measure different objects using different tools of measurement?
How can we decide on appropriate units of measurement

In Reading/Languge Arts, second grade students are working on summarizing and writing about nonfiction texts, and comparing fiction/nonfiction texts. We continue to work with Socks, by Beverly Cleary, as an extended text, and working on summarizing and organizing information from each chapter.
Please keep practicing sight words, and working on decoding skills. Please make sure sight words return each day, so your student can use them for school activities.

Second graders have finished their Science unit on Changes to the Environment, and have begun learning about the Cherokee people of Georgia. We will be moving on to a Science Unit on Matter during the week of January 22nd.
